2021 Young Investigator Award Nominations/Applications

Candidates may apply for MORE THAN ONE YOUNG INVESTIGATOR AWARD using the Nomination/Application Form below as well as for a Milstein Travel Award/Abstract Award (applied for via the Cytokines 2021 Abstract Submission), but will not be awarded more than one award in a given year. Deadline for submitting Young Investigator award application is 15 May, 2021. An online nomination/application form will be coming here soon.

Nominations by mentors and/or colleagues for the Young Investigator Awards or self-applicants, please use the online form (coming soon) using one form for each candidate for ALL 2021 Young Investigator Award nominations or applications. Candidates may be nominated for more than one award using the same form, but please use a separate form for each candidate.

Eligibility & Submission Guidelines for all of the  ICIS Young Investigator Awards

Nominations and Applications for Young Investigator Awards must include the following:

  • An abbreviated CV (max. 1-3 pages) together with a letter of recommendation detailing the accomplishments of the nominee (including confirmation of eligibility) should be uploaded as a combined PDF document.
  • No proprietary or confidential information can be included in the application.
  • Submission Deadline, 15 May, 2021: All the Young Investigator Awards:

    • Christina Fleischmann Award to Young Women Investigators

Winners of the 2021 Young Investigators Awards will be required to register for Cytokines 2021 and submit an abstract by 1 June, 2021 (information will be provided in the acceptance letter).

Young Investigator Awards for Excellence in Cytokine & Interferon Research

SOON TO BE NAMED Young Investigator Awards for Excellence in Cytokine & Interferon Research (formerly the Milstein Young Investigator Awards)

Description: ICIS members who will attend the upcoming annual conference and who have received a Ph.D or M.D. within the previous 10 years are eligible, but may be extended by 1 year due to parental leave. Every year up to FOUR awards are granted to individuals who have made notable contributions to either basic or clinical research. ICIS members may apply themselves or nominate other eligible members for these NEW, soon to be announced NAMED, Young Investigator Awards. All Awardees will be invited for an Oral presentation during the Meeting.
Award: $5,000 provided by (TO BE ANNOUNCED)

These awards replace the former Milstein Young Investigator Awards.

The ICIS Amanda Proudfoot Tribute Award for Excellence in Chemokine Biology

Description: This ICIS YI award is dedicated to the memory of Amanda Proudfoot (1949-2019), who is internationally recognized for her important contributions to the field of chemokine biology. This award will be bestowed on an individual whose research on chemokine biology has had an impact on the field early in his/her career. Graduate students and postdoctoral fellows are eligible for this Award. This annual award is presented at the annual ICIS Meeting. READ MORE

Award: $1,500 and a plaque made possible through the generosity of the friends and colleagues of the late Amanda Proudfoot. The Awardee will be invited for an Oral presentation during the Meeting.

2020 Inaugural Amanda Proudfoot Tribute Graduate Student/Postdoc Award for Advances in Chemokine Biology

 

The Sidney & Joan Pestka Graduate & Post Graduate Awards

Description: The Sidney & Joan Pestka Graduate and Post-Graduate Awards, generously sponsored by PBL Assay Science, are targeted to graduate students and post-doctoral fellows who have begun to make an impact in interferon and cytokine research. The Awards are designed to fill the gap among the awards currently offered by the ICIS to more senior investigators. Candidates must be actively working in interferon/cytokine research but need not be ICIS members. This is an annual award, and a recipient may receive an award only once. However, an individual who receives the Graduate Award remains eligible for the Post-Graduate Award. In years where a suitable candidate is not identified, an award will not be bestowed.
Award: $3,500 cash award and a $2,500 PBL Assay Science product credit for each awardee, and a complementary one-year ICIS membership. These awards are sponsored by PBL Assay Science. The Awardees will be invited for an Oral presentation during the Meeting.

The Christina Fleischmann Award to Young Women Investigators

Description: This award is dedicated to the memory of ISICR member and outstanding interferon research scientist Christina Fleischmann. It is open to young women investigators working in the cytokine, chemokine and interferon biology.  The rules for this ICIS award are the same as for the Milstein Young Investigator Award (see above) except for gender and the candidate must have received a Ph.D or M.D. degree within the previous 10 years, but may be extended by 1 year due to parental leave.
Award: $2,000 and a plaque made possible through the generosity of the Fleischmann Family. The Awardee will be invited for an Oral presentation during the Meeting.

Annual Meeting Abstract Presentation Awards

Pfizer Trainee Awards for Most Promising Research Presentations at the Cytokines Annual Meeting

PfizerAll ICIS member trainees (students, postdocs and fellows) are invited to apply for a Pfizer Trainee  Award at the time of abstract submission, before the June 1, 2021 deadline. Up to four (4) trainees with the highest scoring abstracts  as per the scientific review committee, will be awarded $1,250 each and will be invited to give an oral presentation at Cytokines 2021 Hybrid Meeting, recognized as a PfizerTrainee Presentation, in the most appropriate session based on topic.

The Pfizer Trainee Award Winners will also be invited to participate in a Pfizer symposium (physically at Pfizer Headquarters if possible AND via the ICIS virtual meeting platform on-demand within one year of the Annual Meeting), to showcase their award winning work. The symposium will also feature a networking event to introduce the award winners to associated research groups within Pfizer and expose the trainees to potential collaborations and career opportunities in industry.
 
Application is through the online abstract submission form, deadline to apply is the same as the Abstract Deadline, 1 June 2021.
 

ICIC-Milstein Travel Awards

The ICIS-Milstein Travel Awards may be applied for by poster and oral abstract submitters. Each year the the ICIS Awards Committee has chosen the top ranking 65 – 85 abstract presenters to receive Travel Awards to cover most of their travel expenses. These awards are sponsored by generous gift from the Milstein Family–Seymour Milstein (July 21, 1920 – October 2, 2001). Milstein’s son Philip has generously continued to support this award for the twenty (20) years following the passing of his father.

ICIS members who attend the Annual Meeting of the ICIS and submit a meeting abstract are eligible for ICIS-Milstein Travel Awards. Please note that there are no age restrictions to this award. However, if both senior and junior members from the same laboratory apply for an award, preference is given to the junior member. Please renew or join the ICIS prior to applying for an ICIS-Milstein Travel Award.

  • ICIS-Milstein Travel Awards – to be applied for together with the Cytokines 2021 Meeting Online Abstract Submission by 1 June, 2021. For those participating virtually, the a smaller financial award will be provided.
