The role of and effect of cytokines in every aspect of human health will continue to be identified and characterized and the use of cytokines themselves or antibodies to cytokines will become even more important tools in the arsenal of clinicians.
The International Cytokine & Interferon Society (ICIS), is a non-profit organization of over 1,200 scientists devoted to research in the fields of cytokine, interferon and chemokine cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry and the clinical use of these biological response modifiers. Bringing together scientists across many different research disciplines, ICIS is the premier organization promoting the field of cytokine & interferon biology, impacting all aspects of medicine and leading to new treatments in autoimmune diseases, cancer, infectious diseases and inflammation. A common ground where scientists interested in all aspect of cytokine biology can join and work together to better human health.

Today, the governing council of the International Cytokine & Interferon Society (ICIS) announced the Society’s ICIS-Distinguished Service Award would henceforth be known as the ICIS-Howard A. Young Distinguished Service Award in recognition of the extraordinary contributions Dr. Young has given to the ICIS and its predecessor society, the International Society for Interferon and Cytokine Research (ISICR).
“It’s hard to imagine anyone ever doing more for our society than Howard Young,” said current ICIS President, Sarah Gaffen. “Starting with his leadership of the ISICR, the countless committees on which he served, his stewardship of Signals+, he is the epitome of service and the spirit that permeates everything we do.”
Hosted by the International Cytokine & Interferon Society (ICIS), https://cytokinesociety.org/) and Korean Association of Immunologists (KAI), https://www.ksimm.or.kr/. The event will be held from October 20 to 23, 2024 at COEX, Seoul, Korea.

Each year the Jürg Tschopp Memorial Symposium will be a highlight of the Cytokines Annual Meeting in memory of Professor Jürg Tschopp whose discoveries in the area of inflammasomes and cell death advanced fundamental understanding of innate and adaptive immunity bringing new therapies to patients suffering from debilitating inflammatory diseases. Virginia Pascual’s Lecture, “Cytokines in systemic lupus erythematosus pathogenesis”, is representative of Dr. Tschopp’s ability to take fundamental discoveries at the bench into the clinic.
