Charlotte received her PhD in Cellular Microbiology from Imperial College London, where her work focused on Salmonella pathogenesis. Charlotte then moved to Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard
Medical School to study innate sensing, in particular the regulation of type I and III interferons (IFNs). Charlotte then started her lab as a Sir Henry Dale Fellow funded by the Wellcome Trust and Royal Society at King’s College London, where she is now a Lecturer. The Odendall lab investigates both sides of the interaction between pathogens and their host. Charlotte is especially interested in uncovering the anti-bacterial functions of type I and III IFNs, and how enteric bacterial pathogens manipulate IFN signaling pathways to promote virulence.
