The Role:

Reporting to the Director of Molecular Pathology, the Associate Director supports Moderna’s mRNA pipeline and therapeutics areas by managing and coordinating study planning activities, participating in a cross-functional team environment, and overseeing design and execution of tissue-based assays to support the molecular pathology department.  The ideal candidate has histological and molecular pathology expertise, thorough knowledge of experimental design and independent thinking to support multiple programs.  They must be a highly motivated individual with the ability to oversee project timelines and deliverables and interpret and communicate results.

Here’s What You’ll Do:

Drive study management workflows and manage team resources for assay validation and execution of multiple experiments.
Propose and lead initiatives to increase efficiencies, improve communication, and facilitate collaboration while managing tracking of Molecular Pathology deliverables and milestones.
Oversee outsourcing and management of routine histology workstreams.
Develop novel tissue-based staining methodologies to support a variety of programs.
Collaborate with project team members and peers to anticipate and resolve day-to-day issues working in a matrix organizational structure.
Oversee Molecular Pathology infrastructure and enable and improve processes, workflow, and databases to support research activities.
Contribute to experimental design, planning, and execution of research projects.
Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrate managerial skills; with the ability to coach, motivate, and mentor.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table:

Bachelor’s degree with at least 10-15 years of experience, or Master’s degree with 8+ years relevant industry experience or PhD with 5+ years of experience; managerial experience a plus
Extensive knowledge of molecular pathology platforms, including automated stainers, whole slide scanning and quantitative tissue analysis.
Experience with managing multiple CRO vendors and demonstrate ability to assess projects and deliver data in a timely manner.
Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple projects involving different key stakeholders.
Ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic, cross-functional matrix environment.
